But that goes against the Mac philosophy doesn't it?
RTFM is never against any philosophy.
WTFM, however, is against Apple policy. It's a Jobsian thing, I
guess. OTOH, it leaves a market open to 3rd party authors, of
which there are some great ones.
Don't get me wrong, I'm an avid manual reader, in fact most of my
friends tease me about it. But on a somewhat-mainstream type
program, you shouldn't have to read the manual first for the most
basic program functions, especially if you have used other programs
of the same type before.
Now, if you're new to computers and want to learn a complex program
like AutoCAD, you have to RTFM. Then again, there are great programs
like SolidWorks that have built-in tutorials that make learning such
a complex program much easier and you'll be up and running in no time.
It's all up to the developer, they can make it intuitive and easy to
use, or not. And just because it's intuitive to the developer who
wrote it, doesn't mean its intuitive to end user.
Years ago, you had to RTFM with almost every program, but today, it's
almost the opposite.
Which was the point of my original post. I wanted to know if there
was a nice simple, yet elegant news reader that worked well and
listers could recommend. Which is exactly what I got. I had seen
Unison listed on Version Tracker, but since it didn't have as many
downloads as the other, more well-known apps I had hard of before, I
had passed it over.
