I built a Sawtooth system not long ago. ive never really gotten thing to be stable, but it was at least usable well over ninety percent of the time. Past couple days have been real hot here in ct, and the temperatue in my room has been 84 degrees or hotter. And, my g4 had now become usable less than ten percent of the time. Coincidence, or is this perhaps related? I even have 2 fans mounted on the heatsink. Also, odd beeps have been coming from the inside of my computer, even though I use external speakers. The beeps will happen at random times, sometimes while the computer is starting up, sometimes while Im surfing the net. I just cant wait to get this system running properly.

I have a QuickSilver in my shop here in Oklahoma. And not only do we get lots of tornadoes, but also have very hot summers (weeks above 100 occasionally, 90-100% humidity is common). Before I got my QS, when I came from the dark side, I had a tower PC and It seemed as if the heat completely killed that machine. We have no AC in my shop...well, we do, but I'm too tight to use it right now. So it's just open doors and fans, but it still gets brutally hot during June, July and August here. My QS lasted through last summer without a single hiccup and getting ready to go through it's second. I just blew the case out about a week ago to clean it up. We are a metal fab shop (well, we build hot rods, but thats primarily metal fab for us), so it is an extremely dirty environment, lots of metal dust, lots of sparks. It kills me to see my beautiful mac getting that dirty, but otherwise I'd still be using PCs and so far it has been much more durable (beauty and brawn). To my surprise, it has been trouble free, one of the things that has further convinced me to move completely to macs. I didn't think it was possible for a machine that beautiful to be that tough also.

Anyway, heat can definitely be a factor, but it wasn't for my QS and I would think they are pretty similar in case/cooling design. I don't have any extra fans in mine. I wouldn't think that 84 would be too bad, now when its 104 here, I worry, but it chugs along without a hitch...so far anyway.

Best of luck.
