Compatibility of internal and external optical drives can be a hassle
with macs - mostly because apple do not publish an up to date list of known
compatible drives. But accelerate your mac keep an up to date database of
drives which are and are not compatible based on reader reports.
Buying from a mac supplier should ensure compatability but if you wish
to buy elsewhere Liteon are the brand I would recommend for both cdrw and
dvdrw - the Liteon 52x32x52 cdrw (LTR-52327S) is totally compatible as is
the dvdrw version.
Pioneer dvdrw's (dvr-whatever) are all compatible via Patchburn.
