That's because I believe a G3 requires at least 8.5 (maybe 8.6). I don't
believe 8.1 will run at all. Also, you can't use anything less than 9.1
(Apple recommends at 9.2) for the Classic enviroment under OS X anyway.
Everymac.com will give you the exact specs for your system, including
the lowest OS version that will run on it. Or check the Apple support site.
