Mike, as both Bruce and Dan pointed out, there are pros and cons. I
myself got into the habit of separate partitions working on Wintel
machines. I used to run a lot of different OS's and it made for
changing from one to another much easier. Plus if something happened
to the boot partition, it was a simple task to reinstall whatever
version of Windows without seriously affecting my data. Since I got
into Mac's, I've more or less given up the practice as it just isn't as
necessary. Plus I now have a fileserver on my network and keep most of
my truly valuable data there. YMMV
