From the command-line FTP client, you can transfer files either way.
From the Finder-based FTP client, you are correct that this one can
only download files.

Mike,
I just wanted to point out that there is a built-in FTP client. Go
to the command line and type "ftp foo.bar.com" where "foo.bar.com" is
the FTP server to which you want to connect.
Also, check our RBrowser for an excellent FTP client. But I wouldn't
recommend using FTP for anything but anonymous FTP, unless you
control the entire network; FTP is notoriously insecure.
