Also, OSX is much more critical about RAM than OS9 was. Before trying to install OSX, you should google and download the little OS9 program "DIMM First Aid", which checks your RAM sticks and report which of them will be accepted by OSX. Not all brands of RAM follow Apples specifications exactly.

Always do this before a firmware update. Some of them will DISABLE unacceptable RAM, meaning the system won't see them at all any more - not even i OS9 I think.
