Concerning bad CDs from library or anywhere else: often a simple wash does wonders.

The problem is more that a scratched CD crashes iTunes
when one tries to encode the damaged/dirty CD and one
can't clean/repair every CD before encoding them, one tends
to notice a crap CD after it's too late.

My original post dealt with the fragility of iTunes and
how unbelievable it was that a Mac OS X app could
fall over due to that...
