The G5 chip IBM's building for the X-box is a cut-down version of the one they make for Apple. Like the CELL processor IBM is making for Sony, these chips do fewer things faster than general purpose CPU's. I also have no doubt that this was one of the 'last straws' pushing Apple away from IBM....

i think Apple can make a MacMini for $400 and dont tell me otherwise.

Ok, I won' tell you otherwise, but the market will bear me out. It's not like the people running Apple are stupid or anything.

And yes, ANY computer can be a server, dont tell me otherwise.

Absolutely. My web server for years was a Performa 6214 'road-apple' with 64 megs of ram, a 4 gb disk, running 8.6.

You said 'server-class', which is an entirely different thing, semantically.

Server class machines have features like fault-tolerance, dual power supplies, higher speed motherboards and Xeon or G5 processors.

Apple makes a 'server class' machine: the Xserve. A dual 2.3 Ghz system, 1U in size, 1G DDR400 ram, OS X unlimited clients, and an 80G drive sells retail for $3999.

Dell sells a similar system, The Power Edge 2850. It's 2U high, and the base SINGLE 2.4 Ghz processor version, 256M ram, NO OS, no drive, no mounting rails costs $4028.

Built similarly to the Mac, you end up paying $7,460. And at that, that's only a 25-client license for the OS (WinXP 2003 server).
