I thought I'd ask Pioneer why they choose to not support Mac users of
their AV drives. I guess it never occurred to me that the answer would
be so obvious:

Our retail drives are not intended for use in an Apple computer.
Although thousands of people may buy the drive for use in an Apple,
this is not what it is intended for. This is the reason why no Apple
based firmware is available.
Now my question is twofold. Why does Apple choose a supplier of their
OEM stuff that hold Mac users in such low regard? Flip-side of this
question is this: Is Pioneer's position it's own, or is this the
position Apple demands Pioneer take?
Next question is this: Where is the AV drive manufacturer who is
willing, nay, anxious, to step into this service void in the market?
