Hi, List,

I use Netscape 7.0 for my browser on a G4 Sawtooth with 512 MB RAM and a pretty slow dial-up connection (best is 24,600 bps). Sometimes when I leave my computer, I go to Remote Access under the Apple and "Disconnect" my line. I get the "Idle" status message. Then I usually, if I know I'll be back an hour, a few hours, half a day later, switch off just my monitor. For the past week to ten days, I have turned my monitor back on and found that the machine has "Connected" on its own. Got the blinking Apple and a solid connection at 24,600.

What is happening? This ties up my phone line as I have just the one. Now it didn't used to do that. It happened to me just before I sat down to write this eMail.

If I shut down the browser before I switch off the monitor, I don't get the problem. So I'm guessing that I have something enabled in preferences. I've looked them over and see nothing new or unusual.

Any suggestions on where/what to do/look at?

Thanks. Jim

It seams to me that I remember a parameter in Netscape that said "Connect when necessary" however it's been so long that I've used Netscape that I don't remember for sure and definitely can not remember where it is located.

Good luck, perhaps someone else will remember.
Send your question to Netscape, or I've got the book that came with the CD and I'll try and find the option and let you know.

Best Regards,
