Does this card give you core image support in Tiger (i.e. the cool water rippling effect in Dashboard)?

Yeah, right. :-) No, you have to go pretty far up the food chain for core image, not to mention it requires a minimum 4x AGP card. The "low end" core image cards are the Radeon 9600 and nVidia 5200FX cards. You also need a Quicksilver or newer to run Core Image for the 4x AGP requirement.

The Radeon 7000 does, however, handle PCIExtreme! ( http:// www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16006 ) to allow you to use Quartz Extreme over the PCI bus in B&W Powermacs. I have it running on mine and it works well enough, although there is a performance hit for processor-intensive programs. So if your use in a PCI-based B&W is primarily web browsing, email, etc, PCIExtreme! is a godsend. If you're using Photoshop, editing movies and watching DVDs, PCIExtreme! may not be for you.
