G'day,

I'm just about to part with my hard earned cash and buy an ex-demo PowerMac G5 with Cinema Display and wondered which was the better option: the 1.6 or 1.8 gig single?

Do you own one of the above machines and if so what issues (if any) have you had with it over the last couple of years?

I've heard that are slight problems with the fan (ie it's a bit noisy now and then), is this something to be concerned about and should I ask the Apple Reseller to sort it out before I buy? It comes with a 12 month warranty so hopefully I should be covered if things go t i t s up...

I currently have a Pismo (PowerBook G3) which is great but quite slow now that I'm really starting to get to grips with Adobe's Creative Suite for Graphic Design and Mapping work.

What about running Virtual PC on the G5, or is this a big no-no with a single G5 chip? I'm forced to use PC's at work for GIS and mapping work; as ESRI, MapInfo, et al, can't see past the end of their noses' and think that there is only one OS/platform in the world, but that's another story (their loss, not mine)...

I think it will be a while before I outgrow the G5 me finx *:)

Any help/advice/thoughts would be most appreciated.

Cheers guys (and girls),

Simon
