One thing I haven't seen talked about is what the Intel Mac move means for Objective C and Mac OS X? Some weeks ago I read that Intel is going to provide Apple with optimized C and C++ compilers, so then what of Objective C? Will Apple stop being a champion of it, and move to C++? Or am I just confused? :)
Given that the entire Mac API is built around Objective C, I'll wager that Intel is helping Apple optimize their compiler.
Intel does have an optimized gcc build, iirc, perhaps this is what you read about.
But no, Apple isn't dropping Obj-C or they would have said so at the WWDC, loudly and many times, since this one was all about the transition to Intel, and they were touting how well Xcode apps migrated.
