Hi all, Interesting discussion. I think everybody should check for himself which OS can do which tasks more efficiently. This is very important with older Macs like the beige which I have and the B&Ws and Sawtooths.
For example: Preview is used by OSX to view PDFs but I found it amazingly slow, to look at PDFs I start Acrobat 4 under Classic and it blazes away, even though Classic is run as an app which runs Acrobat. This looks like bad code (of Preview in this case) to me but I'm not bitching ... Even the fonts are better readable in Acrobat under Classic, the pix often have jaggies but yeah, thats the good old OS9 look. I have no money to spend on a new machine so I try to get the most out of my trusty beige, I like the legacy SCSI and ADB/serial busses together with the new stuff in one Mac. But even in a new one I wouldn't like to give up speed for eye-candy ... My main Mac: Beige MT 300 Mhz with Wings AV-card and max. RAM, flashed Sapphire Radeon 7000 64MB, Sonnet Trio ATA-133, Firewire and USB combo with two big ATA-disks and a Formac UW-SCSI card with IBM 18 gig disk for OS9/Classic and a Pioneer DVR-108 burner.
