Well, after the 10th or so freezeup, I decided to check the secondary
HD from within OS9 (which has NO problems with this 17" monitor, or my
13" ones) using Disk First Aid. Unfortunately, it came up with
problems which First Aid couldn't fix, so I simply selected to erase
the secondary HD, and am reinstalling 10.2 onto it as we speak. I
doubt that I'll update the OS much, maybe just to 10.2.6 as has been
suggested. First, I'll see how well 10.2 behaves without any major
updates.

Sorry to hear about the problem Adam, but it does affect those certain
machines with that certain video chip. Seems a bunch of beige's have
that chip too. Do a search for the 10.2.6 update and you should have
no more problems and really the loss of the extra benefits from 10.2.8
is not that great. I read somewhere what they were but I've since
forgotten where I read it or what the deal was. I just remember
thinking at the time that it was no big deal. My fileserver beige
running 10.2.6 has been up and running 24/7 for well over a week now
and it continues to chug along just fine.
Just a message from Doug...
