Good Morning Listers:
It's finally time to dump AOL. I've been using it since my
first
computer, line of least resistance, etc. Now I can't access some
websites,
spinning beachballs, and other problems. I was told the difficulty
lies in that Apple
refuses to renew AOL's protocols for OS 9.
I would love suggestions as to ISP / browser / E-mail
programs
suitable to OS 9.2.1 and my fleet of G3 computers. Flexibility, ease
of use, and
cost effectiveness would all be nice if possible.
Because of the age of my equipment, I will probably continue
to use
the prehistoric dial-up connection for the near future.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Using OS 9 and/or older machines really has nothing to do with using
dialup sevices. In fact, any G3 should be able to use DSL easier and
far more reliably than dialup.
Having said that, however, it's probably time for you to upgrade to
OSX. I know it's a lot of work, but Apple has already all but dropped
support for OS 9, and therefore many software makers have too.
In fact, I'd say there's a fair chance Leopard may even drop Classic.
Don't mistake me, I'm not being unsupportive of your position, but I
can say with some assurance: Help for OS 9 will get sparser by the
month. Reality can be a mean teacher.
All the best,
Ken N.
