Is there a difference in the format(s) used in Europe from those used in North America for making video DVDs ??

To be more specific, I have a video DVD made in Europe that will not play on my modern TV and DVD player. Other people have the same issue. I can get it to play properly on my G5 Macintosh. The DVD was made by an amateur (like me) from video tape to DVD. Copyright and copy protection is not the issue.

Any suggestions?

Keith, in Canada, eh!

Some clarification on the original query . . . The DVD will play on my G5. On my TV & DVD combination the DVD shows on the screen but is very distorted and not viewable.

The original DVD was on a DVD+R disc. Using MactheRipper and Toast I made a copy on a DVD-R disc (UDF) but there was no improvement in playability.

I still have to try some of the suggestions made on this list and will do so later today.

Thanks for your interest and suggestions.
