Hello again,
Has anyone used an external floppy drive (USB) for any reason? Months
ago I bought a Sony 2x speed floppy disk drive and just tonight
finally got around to opening the box and trying to use it. I
obviously never expected any problems, or I would have tried it right
away...

Do I have a bum drive, or am I missing something? Back in 1991 this
set of clip art was about $300 and even though it's "old"... now it
is a matter of principle... and I WANT IT!
Any help or thoughts would be welcome.
Some of the OLDER floppies, even if they are the 1.44 MB (or whatever
is the current) will not read in OS 9. I had some games, etc. from the
early 90's and they would read and play on my son's iMac that was 8.6
but once we went to 9 they were just gone/invisible. I have an iMation
USB Floppy drive that I use for my Sony Mavica floppies and it works
great but it won't take anything except more current floppies - so all
that neat old floppy-ware I find is lost to me as well.
If you have a school or a Mac club/user group close maybe someone has
an older system and machine that can read them for you and either let
you download them or move them to a newer floppy.

I just booted my G3 DT into 9.2.2 to see if there was any problem
reading floppy's.
Everything worked just fine. I could read 400/800/1.2 and 1.44 disks.
IBM/Microsoft disk's also mounted without any problems.
By the way a 400k disk is the same as the 800k except for the fact that
the recording service is only on one side. The original 400k floppy
drives only have a read/write head on one side, then the read/write
head was put on both sides and the size was increased to 800k
So the problem must be somewhere in your platform.

I know, when people see a cat's litter box, they always say, "Oh, have
you got a cat?" Just once I want to say, "No, it's for company!"
