As always, Bruce, superb advise and suggestions.
Why ethernet hub? So that I have to run only one wire across the hall
way,
through the door and across the room.
Mice ate through the under house wiring
and I've not found time to reroute through conduit.
But, alas, two wires it is, because it turns out to be the hub.
Guess it doesn't like OSX.
Wire direct to router and I'm up and running.
Any suggestions, or caveats regarding a new hub, or just any old "new
" one?
Thank you,
Cliff

Got new Mini for birthday. cool.
Hope this is correct forum.
Previous Internet connection:
Long range wireless from local mountain top
to a Linksys router
to a ethernet hub
to PB 3400 running OS 9.1
Auto DHCP works flawlessly.
Tiger on Mini tells me I cannot connect automatically.
??? Seems odd.
Why the ethernet hub? Doesn't the Linksys router offer more than one
ethernet connection?
If not, then perhaps it's the 'cable modem' bit. Those typically will
only allow traffic from the first MAC address (AKA Ethernet ID, in
the Networking control pane)they 'see' after being reset.
Alternative theories are:
Perhaps the Linksys router is set to only accept traffic from one
device (this would be in the advanced settings part.)
You may need to add your Mini's ethernet ID to it's list.
Bad ethernet port on the Mini (which would be a bummer!)
Make sure you're looking at the ethernet device in the networking
control pane. I've pulled my hair out trying to figure out why the
ethernet wasn't getting an IP address, when I was looking at the
Airport card ;-)

If you use "Netstat in your Network Utility folder you should be able
to see all of the TCP/IP and ethernet connections to your platform.

I know, when people see a cat's litter box, they always say, "Oh, have
you got a cat?" Just once I want to say, "No, it's for company!"
