I think I've gone for fun here. Netname scheme: Catseye Labs Laptops: Inanimate objects from cartoons/comic books/anime Navi: Apple iBook 300MHz (Blueberry "clamshell") 544MB RAM, 30GB hard drive, stock CD-ROM, MacOS 10.3.9 Name origin: computers in "Serial Experiments: Lain" BlueTomato: IBM Thinkpad 600e 400MHz PIIm, 228MB RAM, 40GB HD, Matsush'ta Combo drive. Currently dual boots Windows 2K SP4+Security Rollup and Debian Linux (hybrid of Sarge and Sid) Going off to live with my God-daughter soon. It will have a 30GB HD and a CD-ROM when it is reconfigured. Name origin: Tomato, Radical Edward's cyberdeck from "Cowboy Bebop," and Blue for IBM which is also known as Big Blue. BlueTank: IBM Thinkpad 600x, 500MHz PIIIm, soon to have 384MB RAM and the drives from BlueTomato. In process of configuration, will run Debian Linux (hybrid of Sarge and Sid) Name origin: "The Tank" is the van that the band Mystik Spiral tools around in on the MTV animated series "Daria." Again, Blue is for IBM. Desktops: characters from cartoons/comic books/anime Buttercup aka Batachan: Homebuilt PIII 733MHz, 512MB RAM, 120GB HD, Pioneer A06 DVD-/+RW. Currently runs Debian Linux (hybrid of Sarge and Sid) Name origin: "PowerPuff Girls" both domestic version and Japanese dub. Trent: Apple G3 350MHz (Blue-And-White aka "Yosemite") 512MB RAM, 20GB HD, DVD-ROM drive. Currently runs Mac OS 9.2.2 but will be either running 10.3.9 or 10.4.2 soon. Name origin: "Daria." Trent is the flaky musician guy who's Jane's big brother and Daria's onetime crush. The original netname for this machine was Daria but after being confronted by the flaky nature of Mac OS 8.5.1 which I mistook for general flakiness on the computer's part I renamed it Trent. Nuku Nuku: Dot-bomb relic Celeron 466MHz, 256K RAM, 15GB HD, CD-RW drive. Currently running Windows 2000 SP4+Security Rollup, but will be "liberated" soon. Name origin: "Bannou Bunka Neko Musume Nuku Nuku." Has an ASUS MEW-RM motherboard. Nyaoow. Projects in various stages of restoration: OG3: eBay $8.50 special Apple Beige G3 266MHz Minitower, 96MB RAM, 6GB HD, CD-ROM drive. Currently runs Mac OS 9.1 and will stay at 9.1 because the "Wings" audio/video personality card doesn't run under Mac OS X. This machine is not fully functional yet and requires some restoration. Name origin: only machine to break the naming scheme. OG3 stands for "Original G3" and is a play on the urban concept of the OG: Original Gangsta. Beavis: foundling PIII 600MHz, 512MB RAM, 20GB HD, CD-ROM drive. Literally dumped on my doorstep. Currently running Ubuntu "Warty" but may run Windows after Nuku Nuku is repurposed. Name origin: "Beavis and Butt-Head." The machine has a PC Chips motherboard so I am not sure how reliable it is, hence the name. BubbleVicious: Athlon 1800+ "Thoroughbred" 512MB RAM, no HD, not sure which optical drives will go in the machine. In pieces. Major restoration project. Not sure what OS will run. Name origin: named specifically after an episode of "PowerPuff Girls," in which Bubbles gets "hardcore." Dormant: Kenshin 300MHz K6-2 Name origin: "Ruroni Kenshin" (Not named) 166MHz Pentium Pro JaneLane Mac Centris 610 Name origin: "Daria" Jesse Mac Quadra 660av Name origin: "Daria" Dilputer 433MHz Celeron Name origin: "Dilbert" various and sundry old Macs and an 80486 with PCI slots. Yes, I have Too Many Computers. (tm) I seem to run an orphanage for computers here.
