Great thread! A little levity now and then's a nice thing.

I was so impressed with the power of my early computers I named them after powerful entities & wise people. The most consistent has been Zarathustra, a Persian wise man (remember Richard Strauss' music,Thus Sprak Zarathustra, in Kubrick's movie 2001?) Another was Erastothenes, named for the Alexandrian Greek who calculated the diameter of the Earth about 2000 years ago, using two sticks and a lot of walking.

Generally I've had only one Mac running at a time so they all have the same name; now that I'm networking two older ones for MIDI music making, I'll have to do some renaming: how about LeVerendrye for Canadian patriotism (an early explorer) & Landowska, after Wanda the harpsichordist?
