That's 'cos each MAC is supposed to be almost unique :). At least

About ATA/IDE and Apple:
Wasn't the issue with the B/W G3s (and other models) not supporting
slave drives real? I thought they cheaped out on the IDE controller
for the first few years, and you could not successfully have both
master and slave on one bus, even though the full standard supported
it. And that support for true MS/slave IDE was comparatively recent.
I thought it was real, but googling to document it for this thread
came up with a site that said it wasn't a real issue.
Sure seemed like a real issue at the time...
