That is incorrect. Dell, for example, has used cable select in their
desktop PCs for years. I never had any problems with it, and I've owned
and added second hard drives to a couple of them.
I believe there were some IDE cables that didn't support cable select,
which may have led to the belief amongst some PC users that cable select
was problematic.
SATA gets rid of the whole master/slave/cable select issue anyway so
someday it'll just be an historical footnote--and good riddance. :)
