What kind/model of CD-ROM? Is it the stock Apple one? Might be worth it to replace it with a newer one. My original Apple supplied CD-ROM in my B&W was very freaking picky on booting from CD. I replaced it with a LiteOn Combo drive and it works /much/ better. >>As for the drives, I would do the following: >> >>Set the Maxtor IDE drive as master. I found a graphic on Maxtor's site for jumper settings for that drive. http://www.maxtor.com/_files/maxtor/en_us/images/general/documentation/jumper_settings/style_a2.gif Generally, the top line is all you should need to look at. I wonder if the cable is having issues as well. It's rare, but not unheard of. Disconnect the IDE cable from the logic board and try booting with a different cable in it's place. >>And I'm going to give Andrew the benefit of the doubt and assume he's not >>pulling the power cord. :-) > > No, I didn't... rather, I couldn't... because when this machine, like > my other Macs, misbehaves, it does NOT shut down with the power > button, nor will it restart... so I HAVE to pull the plug. Ahh, OK, your original message said that you had to press the reset button. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
