George (did anybody see the "running OSX on a PC" thread on Slashdot?)
One, it's inevitable that people are going to try. I'm not overwhelmingly surprised that someone has, although I'm somewhat suspicious: the accounts I've read all mention VMware stuff needs installing <http://www.vmware.com/>. I'm not sure what it is that it's needed for, but I have a suspicion that they haven't cracked OS X to run on their hardware, but are, instead, using VMware to emulate the OS X Intel developer boxes.
Two there's no guarantee whatsoever that this will work on shipping Intel-based Macs.
The developer systems were hacked together out of off-the-shelf parts: this got functional machines into the hands of the developers on day one, and no special orders from Apple went out to anyone that might have given a hint of this change.
The switch to Intel was one of Apple's best-managed surprises in a LONG time and the fact that it was something of this magnitude that still didn't leak out means that the whole operations was conducted in a deep skunk-works fashion.
I doubt that shipping Intel macs are going to bear much resemblance to these systems.
