I am no expert on the electronics that may or may not be hindering things by
having ones desktop cluttered, but it should be obvious by the very name,
desktop, that work will move much more efficiently and smoothly if it were
kept clean and orderly.
I remember when I first learned about computing on my LCII that the desktop,
files and folders were compared to their namesakes. To accomplish things,
you kept your desktop clean and filed away things in their proper places.
By the same token, I am aware that there are some of us that insist on
working in chaos. All I can say is that a look at a desktop will tell you
something about its owner's work habits and organization. It does not matter
if in fact the electronics are enhanced or diminished.

Subject: [G] Light and Clarity

Yet another in a series of pleas for Light and Clarity:

After a few years now of experience with the Classic Mac OS's, I have, by
reference and experience, come to conclude that it is good practice to keep
one's desktop as clear as possible, and, in optimum circumstance, to leave
no files, folders, or (Heaven Forbid) applications on the desktop. I imagine
the desktop to be analogous to a central hallway in a house, through which
one must pass to go anywhere at all. I further imagine that leaving piles of
junk, stacks of stuff, and litter of any kind in that hallway just causes
one to stumble and trip when going to and fro, and that by analogy, the
little electromacules that are sent scurrying by clicks and taps have to go
through the desktop to get anywhere and they tend to trip and stumble on
junk left on the desktop. And further, that makes the little critters mad
and they tend to kick stuff around and gnaw through boxes and crap the rug,
so to speak. (whew)

Could one of the Cognoscenti, please, discourse upon the nature of the
desktop folder,
Snip
