As for Ken's question regarding drives, I've had great success with
the LG
drives (knock on wood). I am currently using the LG 4163B dual layer
DVD
burner. It's bootable, has dual layer capabilities, burns DVD+R discs
at
16x, DVD-R discs at 8x, dual layer discs at 2.4x, and it can also use
DVD-RAM discs. All I had to do was use Patchburn 3 in order to get it
to
work natively. I also use Toast, but as I said above there are some
things
Toast can't do. Check out xlr8yourmac.com as they have a compatibility
database that will tell you which drives are bootable.
Well, the situation is like this: I was graciously seeded a copy of
Tiger by an online friend who is a Pro member of ADC (I'm also a member
but I have the freebie, not the insider's version which is kinda
pricey). He gets such things as part of the package.
I downloaded it as this: tiger_8a425_userdvd.dmg. About 2.5 gb.
It won't mount, so I have to burn a DVD and install from that. The
catch is, I have to get a DVD burner. If I do, I need a really lean
price, or I defeat the purpose of getting Tiger for free. Not sure when
else I'll need it.
I don't know anything about LG drives or PatchBurn, but will
investigate.
Thanks.
All the best,
Ken N.
