Well, my parents had fax machines since I can remember (probably for the last 20 years), and I've had fax modems, and a mobile phone that could receive faxes, I've only sent/received faxes, probably only twice in my entire life and that was years ago ;)

I've got both OSX and OS9 - OS9 installed on OSX as "compatability mode" that is. Would prefer a native OSX app though.

Will I be able to use just any phone cable with the modem or will the Mac need a specific one? I doubt it, but asking anyway ;)

Cheers - Piers

Hello all,

As I seem to recall, my B&W G3 has a modem, and I need to receive a fax from a company, but I don't know what time/day they will send it, can I set up my Mac to receive faxes, and potentially send them, and which software do I need to use to do this? I would much rather not spend any money to get this to work as it's just one off.

What OS are you running? I assume 9.x since OSX whatever.something has a send/receive built in (I'm not sure when it appeared).

One software I liked ages ago was ValueFAX. It isn't OSX compatible though.

There might be a watermark or header on things you send, if it's not registered- I don't recall. Only a $25? registration though.
A very nice software.

Having send/receive fax capability can be handy, once you have it you might use it more than you think.
