I don't think that I understand the "Classic" that runs on some OS X machines. Is it OS 9 or is it something else?
"Classic" is the name given to the OS 9 support in OS X. When you run something in Classic, you are running it inside a virtual machine that is running OS 9.2.2. Many applications from the System 1 to OS 9 days run just fine in Classic, but some (for example, Virtual PC and Timbuktu) don't work correctly in Classic).
So, "Classic" is basically the same as Mac OS 9.2.2, but rather than booting the system in OS 9, you boot OS X and essentially run OS 9 inside of OS X.
