Thank you Pete and Chris for your replies.

Last night I went to the ATI site to download and install any updates. That didn't work so I mailed the list. After reading your replies this morning I checked the adapter using my PB and it worked fine so I restarted the G4 zapping PRAM 3 times. The G4 wouldn't get past the apple startup screen.

Put in my Tiger DVD and it started fine and just for the heck of it dragged the pointer from the flat panel to the 21" and you know what happened. So I ran Disk Utilities and fix permissions found lots of ATI files totally screwed. Ran it again and was clear. Restarted and still hung on the startup screen so I am archiving saving personal and network settings and reinstalling.

Will let the list know the result.

Well, Ive used a VGA monitor and a TV using the S Video cable. When
detecting displays, the 2nd monitor needs to be turned on. The options box should appear on the 2nd monitor for the 2nd monitor, not on your main monitor. Also,
try turning mirroring on and off and see if that changes your results.

I have the same card in my sawtooth and the dvi port works fine with a dvi>vga adapter - I've also used it with two monitors without any problems -
perhaps your adapter is faulty....

I have a radeon 9200 in my G4/DP500 and I've running a 21" monitor off the RGB port quite well. I've put a 17" flat panel onto the DVI port using a DVI/RGB adapter.

The computer doesn't detect the 2nd monitor attached to the DVI port with the adapter, using either the Systems Pref's Display panel or the ATI Display panel. I've tried swapping both monitors and whichever one is directly connected to the RGB port is seen fine.

What am I doing wrong? What can I try?

Help as always is greatly appreciated.
