Ah! I was not thinking thru this... I don't recall doing
anything special when I tried a few SCSI cards in my 7600 or
7300, my HDs on the card booted up fine if remember, and I don't
think there was any special drivers for them that I had to put
on. I have an Adaptec u2b and an atto and some other scsi card
that came with my scanner all lying about doing nothing much...
So, if I am not mistaken, the 7300 can "naturally" recognise
the scsi hd on a PCI card but the G4 I am getting might not?

I suspect this is more a matter of the OS than the G4 hardware. When I paid attention to SCSI issues, there was usually some delay by Adaptec, for instance, and chagrin among the users whenever they moved from one system to another, say from System 7.5 to OS 8. I just now peeked at the adaptec. com web site. You might want to rummage around for info on your specific card, which I'm sure is now considered a "legacy" item. Support info for one of their PowerDomain cards reveals a page that lists SCSI cards still supported, others not supported any longer, and a statement at:

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/supporteditorial.jsp? sess=no&language=English+US&prodkey=mac_osx_info&cat=/Product/APD -2940UW&fromPage=suppedindexprod

[WHOA!! Here I am deleting the content I originally quoted from Adaptec's web page. After sending a few minutes ago, I got a reject message from maclaunch.com, the gate keeper for this list. They objected to using a "windows-1252' character set." So I hope this second send-off works.]

If you are lucky, perhaps Apple built in the SCSI software compatibility that you need for your old card in a G4. If so, you'd find out while running OS 9.2.2, and then you should be happy, because I have no idea whether Apple carried this through to OS X. As I recall, you run 9.2.2 on your old machine now, so that may be a good sign. By the way, if your Adaptec card came installed by Apple, you might query the Apple support pages.

Last thought: Many listers here may not be reading this topic under the Subject heading "Quicksilver." I suggest you start a new thread, something like "Migrating old SCSI cards from 7300/7600 to G4 Quicksilver/OS X." I know some folks here have better answers than I. Give them all the details.

Good luck,
