Thank you all for your input and the validation of my original thinking.

The bigger the monitor the better in the end, so I'll discuss it with my folks 
this
weekend and see where they want to go.  Boost the RAM.  Make the choice around 
wireless
keyboarding and connection.

I'm probably going to buy something almost identical for myself while I'm at 
it!  It seems
that with Tiger, Safari, iLife, and Office we'll be covered for pretty much 
everything we
could ever want to do.

Now what?
