I wouldn't mind seeing the Finder being finally put to DEATH by Apple but for now I'm happy.

And you would replace it with what?

Bruce

Not to be a smart ass but..

I replaced Windows with Linux
I replaced my PC with a Mac
I replace Mac OS with Mac OS X
I replaced Mac OS X 10.3 with Mac OS X 10.4

And none of these have anything to do with the Finder, per se. Certainly Linux and Windows do not have it.

I'm hoping Apple or someone else can tell me because I'm running out of choices. The Sparc Laptops are too $$$ at the moment.

What is that you're doing that this is causing you such a problem? IOW, what problems are you having?

A Sparc laptop really isn't going to get you a whole lot more than what a Powerbook or a PC Linux notebook will do.

Heck you can get Solaris 10 free: <http://www.sun.com/software/ solaris/get.jsp> and run it on a PC.

Back when Finder WAS the OS, changes appeared instantly. Now Finder is just another process. It's analogous to the various file system manipulation/display functions of any other OS. It waits its turn like any other process. The speed at which a file appears in the Finder after creating it in a terminal window, for example, is dependent on a lot of things: the systems overall performance, system load, number of running processes, etc.

(I wonder if renice-ing the Finder would change some of these refresh issues...Hmmmm....)

If you're dealing with lots of SPODs, then there are likely issues with your system unrelated to the Finder. Check your system log for errors.

I guess I'm not really clear on what your issue is with the Finder, exactly.
