<<Are you guys doing this just as a hobby?>> Uhh, yeah, its a hobby. Not likely to find doing this as a career. The whole point of clock chipping is that you can gain an increase in speed for free or very little money. This is a hobby thing, not a professional type of thing.
<<A very expensive hobby. Because to overclock the GPU and memory can in the end fry them.>> Done right, nothing is getting fried. I monitor the temperature closely, and I make increases in speeds in small steps. I also have the assistance of hundreds and thousands of people on the internet who have done this so I can know what to expect. <<Or are you doing this seriously meant, to get a faster machine? Then you must be out of your minds - for a 3% increase?!?! Noone can notice that, even if it might be possible to measure.>> Call me silly, but when I overclocked my memory 7.5% and my GPU 18%, I actually expected at least a 7.5% increase, probably more like 10% if I knew Id only get a 4% increase, I may not have even done this. But I tried, and now I can share my results. And I will still look for ways to get 5% or more speed out of this. And please dont tell me I wont notice a 3% increase in speed, because I will. <<And of course, any overclocking creates a more unstable system.>> Again, not if done right. The whole point of any overclocking project is to ensure that your system has not lost any of its stability. I dont know anyone whod be willing to sacrifice stability for extra graphics power, for obvious reasons. That being said, i havent had a single artifact or loss of stability at 295MHz / 215MHz vs 250MHz / 200MHz. Lastly, just becuse that one program benched 4% faster doesnt mean real world performace would be 4%. There will definitely be some increase and speed, and the increase could be much higher than 4% more like the 7.5% to 10% or more wich would make me ecstatic. chris p -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
