Sorry to split hairs, but I never said anything about PCI.  And you can get an 
external, just not a serial, which I also never said anything about.  You can 
pick up a USB external modem from Staples, the Multi-Tech MultiMobile 56K V.90 
Data/Fax Modem, USB.

So, a)  you can get an internal, it just has to be an actual replacement part, 
no options for PCI, and b) you can get an external, it just has to use a port 
that is actually present on the Sawtooth.  (like USB or Firewire)

And this doesn't even get into the ridiculous territory of buying a Keyspan SX 
Pro Serial PCI Card, plugging it in, and then buying a US Robotics external 
Supra Express, and using that.  (Which I'm pretty sure you can do, it's just of 
dubious value).

That all said, I think the best option is to get an internal apple part from 
any of a number of vendors or the swaplist.  ;)
