You can use any OS9 program under OSX. The Classic "environment" is a
full System OS 9.22, running on top of OSX, just another prosess
running along the others. So programs shouldn't really be able to tell
the difference.
It eats RAM though, an is a bit slower than booting in 9. So after a
while it's probably a good idea to switch to a native X program. I like
the standard Mail that comes pre-installed. Good enough for me.
It's not at all so scary in X as you might think. Some things are
irritatingly different at first, but after a while there is a lot you
DON'T miss in 9... Classic is good that way, it's not so scary to crash
in OS 9, because the whole machine doesn't go down any more - you are
caught in X's safety net, and can quickly reboot (while you watch a DVD
or burn a CD).
X is cool,Yersinia! But I agree with you about not changing things that
work. I have always waited pretty long before upgrading OSs which
inevitably leads to need for more RAM and HD space, again.
