i know what you mean about the click. the drive on my mac mini clicks
on occasion, I've checked it over with techtool pro, and the apple
hardware test, and it seems fine.

Well, I'll just have to rename my hard drive Lazarus - because it's
back from the dead.
I was shopping for an external firewire enclosure and decided to
pop over to the Apple website to check the user forums for some
recommendations. While I was there I stumbled on a link to "reset
the PMU". I followed it up, read the instructions and said, "What
the heck, it can't hurt" - with the end result that my hard drive
appears to be working fine (crossing fingers).
I checked it out with Disk Utility from the install DVD and other
than a few minor permissions errors - mostly involving some twain
files - everything checks out fine. It's still clicking
occasionally, but it could just be that it's always done that and
I've never noticed because I wasn't listening (I'm listening to
every little noise it makes now.)
I meant to mention: When the trouble started the first thing I
noticed was the fan suddenly started sounding louder. I wasn't
sure if it was actually louder or if I was just hearing it louder -
I'm dealing with a nasty sinus infection and it's messing with my
hearing.
