All 8x cards have to be taped on pins 3 and 11 to enable them to work in
the proprietary 4x/2x agp/adc 2 part slot (not all macs have these - some
have the universal single brown slot) as Apple used pins 3 and 11 for their
own spec whereas later revisions of the agp spec also utilised the same pins
for 8x operation. So a mac will not boot with an 8x capable card in the
special slot - no damage is caused by trying the taping - and the taping is
not required for the single universal brown agp slot.
To target the pins to tape place the card on the non heatsink side with
the agp pins closest to you and the pci fence to the right and count from
the right to pins 3 and 11 - normal insulation tape or good packing tape can
be used - the tape can be worked a little around the edge of the card for
extra hold on insertion.
Works on a flahsed 9200 and 9800 agp.....
