I have a G4 Sawtooth running 10.3.9, 768 mb ram and would like to know if I can boot from an external USB drive. The drive is an ATA in an USB enclosure. The drive was set on master and nothing. It will not boot up and when I go into System Preferences and select it as the boot drive, then try to restart it just boings. Is it possible in someway to use this as a startup disk. Checked archives but found nothing recently pertaining to this.
No. AFAIK no Mac boots from USB, certainly nothing before the G5's do. It will boot from a firewire drive, so if you get a FW enclosure this will work.
