My question is, can I use the Vonage fax line temporarily to test the dial up modems ? I have tried it unsuccessfully. The modem detects a dial tone and dials but will not connect. I get all the modem tones except for the final connection tone. When I tested the same pc on a standard landline telephone, it connected normally to the internet.

Has anyone else tried this ?

Does the pc modem need to be configured differently to achieve connection thru the Vonage fax line ?

Going back to a dedicated land line seems to be my only other alternative if this is not possible.

Check directly with Vonage. My guess is that you cannot do it. V.90 depends on having one and only one analog-to-digital conversion in the circuit. You're trying to do at least two...

Normally:
IP -> digital (V.90 Modem) analog -> POTS -> CO digital -> ISP.

You're trying to do is:
IP -> digital (V.90 Modem) analog -> analog (VoIP Adapter) digital -> IP to Vonage's gateway to POTS analog -> CO digital -> ISP.

G'luck,
