Now that's a thought, The G5 is simply named G5 which would be a legal Windows name also if my memory servers me correctly and the dual 1 gig G4 is named xaxu which would also be a legal Windows name therefore they're not showing up twice. Maybe I ought to try using a bit more imagination when naming these computers also. I'm going to look into this and see what happens. This laptop (which I didn't have turned on at the time I checked) is named ibook, so I'm assuming it'll only show up once as ibook would also be a legal windows name. I wouldn't have turned on Windows Fire Sharing at all except for the fact that we bought my wife a Dell Laptop. The stupid thing is that with all of the 'security features' installed on it, you can't see it on the network at all, no way no how--but at least she can see the Macs...so I guess it all works out. And yes, I know you have to 'connect to server' and use the smb thingy. Thanks for the insight--a lot better than the information I was offered by an earlier poster who I can only assume was guessing.

My speculation is that if you'd given your computers legal Windows names, meaning 1-12 characters with no spaces, you'd only see one of each. Instead, OS X has added dashes to replace the spaces you've inadvertently left in your computer names, and thus you've got two; one Apple name, and one Windows name adapted by OS X for you from your Apple name? Perhaps you can rename you computers with legal Windows names and I'd speculate there will only be one instance of each? Just a guess.
