Timbuktu is not the way to get in contact with that iMac: you would
need to install software on it for Timbuktu to work from another Mac,
and how can you do that without a screen? Catch 22...
There is another way though. Most iMacs can be connected to an external
screen. A normal VGA connector is on the back, possibly under a plastic
lid (don't know which of the many iMac models you have).
The PRAM (or sometimes called NVRAM) is a small amount of memory backed
up by a little 3.6 V battery, that holds settings for the mouse, where
to boot from, and so on. You say the PRAM has died? Never heard of that
before; maybe what you mean is that the battery is dead. When (an
elderly) Mac starts behaving strangely (like not booting) THE FIRST
THING TO SUSPECT is a low battery. Don't hesitate, replace it! THEN if
things don't improve you can start investigating and asking the lists
for other possible causes.
Has anyone got any experience using Timbuktu? I'm goin g to try to
recover another iMac that the video had died and also the PRAM.
