Actually I believe you are using your drive at 1/4 speed.  Your drive 
is probably being used in SE mode, which maxes out at 40MB/s.  I have a 
39160 card, which is the dual channel version of your card.  The only 
way I can get my Ultra 160 drive to work is by putting it in SE mode. 
So Im only getting 1/4 of its performance.
    Adaptec stopped supporting these cards.  If you want full 160MB/s speed 
out of these cards I believe your ONLY option is to downgrade to os 
10.2.  For this reason, I hate Adaptec.  I spent $100 on this card and 
cant even use it.  I say you and I email Adaptec and demand $100 from them.
    I don't know what there is for fibre channel but the ATTO UL3 is Ultra 
160 and completely compatible with OS 10.3 and I believe 10.4 as well.
