This isn't a matter of hostility, nor even whether or not you let
your neighbors do it or not.
I'd wager real money that you signed a contract with your ISP stating
that you wouldn't share your connection, violation of which subjects
you to anything from simple suspension of your account to
considerable fees.
I'm not saying this happens, most of the time the ISP doesn't care;
but if one of your neighbors gets his system infected, it's YOUR
account that looks like a spammer. ISP's are catching a lot of heat
for this.
Someone does something stupid like drunkenly send an embarassing|
threatening|obscene e-mail to the wrong person (hardly a big-city-
only thing, btw) and it's YOUR IP address it comes back to.
If they download or upload some songs to Kazaa, it's YOUR name on the
lawsuit from the RIAA, and saying "it wasn't me" is poor defense when
all the technical evidence points to your home.
But hey, if you know about it and you don't care, that's OK, just
remember it's *your* network, hence it's *your* problem.
I think that most of the people here are having issues with the very
real legal consequences that the original writer really glossed over;
someone following his advice could (operative word COULD) get in a
ton of trouble.
