I know this comment really isn't on topic but is sort of is.....I
bought my dual 2 gig G5 about a week before they released the dual
core G5's. I was told at the time of purchase that I had 14 days in
which to return it. When I heard about the release of the new G5, I
was almost ready to pack it up and say "give me the new one", but,
I've been so impressed with the speed of this one that for what I use
it for, web browsing, email, games. I figured the dual core would
just be over-kill or am I wrong?

Remember - Apple was very careful about their announcements. They
didn't name any specific processor, other than say "x86
architecture". And they didn't say they were dumping Power... OS
X now works on either. My bet is lower-end consumer machines
using the new lower-power -M x86 processors, and high-end machines
sticking with Power.
Actually, Apple's announced timeframe for transition is Low end
systems in mid 2006 on to phasing in High end systems at the end of
2007 (to coincide, no doubt, with Intels next gen of 64-bit, dual
core systems). Notebook sales have overtaken desktop sales in most
parts of the PC industry and Apple's no exception; they're selling
a whole lotta laptops. Sad to say the new Pentium M's coming in the
latest PC laptops are kicking the G4's a** all over the map.
If only they came with OS X instead of Windows...
That said, Apple *might* toss some Freescale dual-core powerbooks
into the mix before Mid 2006, Jobs also said there were still a
bunch of PPC systems coming down the pike, and it's been quite a
while since the PB line as more than slightly freshened.
