Sir Mathew,
Take the good monitor off the upstairs station and plug it into your 300mhz
G3 - does it kick on at boot up? If not, then its a good chance that your
weird monitor isn't so weird after all - the problem may be the port or VRAM
(or video card if you have that).
If the 2nd monitor does boot on, then your problem may indeed be the
monitor's analog board is going out/has gone out. (I'm not well-versed in
monitor components, but history on this list has demonstrated that this is a
common problem with older monitors that malfunction).,
