thanks Fabian, I know that the PC serial ports are DB-9.
As a matter of fact, I have made a mini DIN-8 (RS-422) to DB-9 (RS-232)
converter for my Mac SE several years ago,
to avoid the trouble of soldering those tiny connectors.
I am still using it in my G4 updated G3 B/W, with a griffin gPort.
I am planning to move to a newer Mac and I need the serial port for my
EPROM programmer.
Buying international and getting the thing trough the customs is
possible, but a real pain in the kneck.

I assume you know that PC serial is not the same as Macintosh Mini
Din-8 serial, therefore a "PC no name converter" will not do you any
good. If you do a search for "USB to serial converter" in the
Macintosh section on eBay, you will find a number of Keyspan or
Belkin adapters, for which the sellers are willing to ship worldwide,
