I just moved a couple of drives from a Sonnet Tempo ATA133 card in an old machine running 9.2.2 to the built-in ATA-66 bus on my new Dual G4 867 MDD with no problems.
I have a couple of questons about your original post that don't seem to have come up in the thread so far: >Date: Mon, 07 Nov 2005 21:52:23 -0400 >From: "Tyler W. Wilson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >System: Beige G3 with SIIG Ultra 133 ATA PCI Card. OS 9.2.2 > >I had a hard drive bootable from the built-in ATA controller. I installed a >new drive on the SIIG card, intiialized it, then copied the system from the >built-in drive to the new add-in drive. I removed the built-in drive. Then I >booted from the add-in drive and it worked great - quite a bit faster too. > >Then I took a shot at updating the SIIG firmware, but it failed. So I tried >hooking the SIIG drive to the built-in controller, but it was not recognized. >Is this expected? Is there a way around it? 1) When you hooked "the SIIG drive" -- by which you presumable meant the drive that was initialized on the SIIG caard -- to the built-in controller, did you put it alone on the controller or along with the original drive? (Since you apparently have a Rev 2 motherboard, you can, presumably, have two drives on the same cable.) 1a) In either case, did you make sure the jumper settings were correct? (It appears from your earlier posts that you are savvy enough to have thought of that, but sometimes we forget the obvious -- like whether something's plugged in or not!) 2) When you say the new drive wasn't recognized, does that mean that ASP, Drive Setup, Disc Fist Aid, etc., couldn't see it, or that it just wasn't recognized as a formatted volume? 2a) If the latter, have you tried reformatting it? Doesn't seem you would lose anything, unless you saved stuff to that drive after formatting it that you don't have on the original drive. It does seem possible that the failed fimware update on the SIIG card may have messed up the drive that, presumably, was attached to it at the time. Hopefully, it only messed it up in a way that can be cured with reformatting. - Aaron >Thanks, >Tyler -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
