As I needed a printer right away, I spent the day Sunday printer browsing. Ended taking a blind chance on a new model HP Photosmart 2575 All-In-One for $200. The similar model 1610 was only $130 but did not have ethernet networking capability or a built-in LCD screen for quick card reader photo viewing/editing/printing as the 2575 did. So far I am quite happy. Hooked two computers up to the printer via my router. Seems to be quite compatible with Tiger and provides full use of HP Image Zone software that integrates with iPhoto. And yes, it prints Appleworks docs. I have a ten year old HP deskjet that still runs but only from OS 9 on older powermacs that I never use anymore. My Epson CX5200 had bare bones 10.4 interface software, wasted ink, was noisey and frustrating. If any ONE ink cartridge(say yellow)was detected as low you could not print black text pages. The printer was unusable until the yellow cartrige was changed. Stupid! And it wasted ink through purge tubes. The internal ink transfer tube to the printhead popped off on many models requiring service or technical expertise in totally dismantling/rebuilding it yourself.(Which I did once). I had no problem going back to an HP.
